Quake

Abstract: How to watch video games? Henry Lowood asks this question through the historical perspective of “Quake movies,” the term commonly used for game-based videos before the term machinima was coined. Quake movies showed not only how games could be watched, but also how game technologies could be repurposed creatively, thus bolstering the claim that games can be about something more than play.
