Abstract: Cheating—the act of gaining an unfair advantage—has always gone hand in hand with analog and digital gameplay. Using EVE Online as a case study, Kelly Bergstrom illustrates how definitions of cheating are contingent on a game’s player community, and that actions deemed to be illicit by some will be seen by others as being an integral element of that gaming experience.
