Abstract: Despite early depictions of colonization in video games, such as Sid Meier’s Colonization or Microsoft’s Age of Empires, there has been little game studies scholarship on postcolonial perspectives. Viewing the presentation of history and the narratives of the colonized Other, as well as the processes of control and expansion of empire through an analysis of Age of Empires, Souvik Mukherjee offers a much-needed postcolonial intervention in the ways in which imperialism and colonialism are presented in video games.
