Dan Golding is a lecturer in media and communications at Swinburne University and an award-winning writer with more than 200 journalistic publications. He co-wrote Game Changers, made the soundtrack to Push Me Pull You, and from 2014 to 2017 was director of the Freeplay Independent Games Festival, Australia’s oldest independent games event.

Abstract: Video game music is a unique form that takes influence from longer musical traditions while also using the possibilities of digital technology to create new musical practices. Through an analysis of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Dan Golding argues that video games have birthed a form of music that can be thematically complex, action-led, interactive, and an important part of fan cultures.
